Simplicity - 80s style Why can't movies of today have the dance sequence? Some of the best movies of the 80s had some fantastic, if not cheesy, dance scenes. Dirty Dancing, Earth Girls are Easy, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Footloose, Breakfast Club - I could go on and on. The dance "fights" to 80s pop set in big city dance clubs shrowded in neon lights and "hammer" pants. So many of the big stars of today got their start with dance sequences. Who would Helen Hunt be without her glorious gold outfit in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun? Would Kevin Bacon be so popular as an actor if it weren't for his dance monologue in Footloose? I mean, it was even featured in a Will and Grace episode! Ahh the dance sequence. I wonder if the simplicity of dancing in tight pants and a ripped, oversized shirt to the vocals of Wham! or Cyndi Lauper will ever make a comeback. Maybe. . . with these "I Love the 80s" shows on VH1 recently. Could the simplicity help ease Western thoughts about other cultures? Could we all learn from yet another 80s movie with several dance sequences - Hairspray? Just something to ponder as I sit here and listen to George Michael. Have a little, faith, right? currently reading: Blood of the Fold - Terry Goodkind
