Announcements

Graduation announcements are a funny thing. It is one of those etiquette items that seems so proper, so old fashioned, and so upper crust. Yet here I sit, working on address lists for the announcement of my upcoming graduation.

High School graduation announcements were so easy. You slap together a list of everyone you ever encountered in the first seventeen or eighteen years of your life, slap a senior photo in most of them, and mail them out knowing most will get placed on a refrigerator in another town but nothing more. Also included are directions and whatnot to the big party in your aunts garage where white cake is served from the picnic table and toddlers run around with balloons while you stand there and collect elaborate gifts and large checks.

But this is the graduation from a university a graduation that is long overdue. The announcements arent just cards you expect to RSVP with a check, these are thick cream colored paper with embossed seals announcing a major accomplishment in your life. Who do you choose to send the thick paper envelopes to? What do you include in the announcement? What happens when you have an extended family that could easily fill a hockey arena?

These are the questions I attempt to answer as I sit here with the names of those most important to both my own life as well as Chewbas.
